COMPanions

Throughout the course we met a few times with our COMPanions. I think that we can all agree that when we first met them we were a little thrown off by what to think, I know I was. All in all though it was really helpful having someone there to help us edit our  papers.
COMPanions are a group of students selected by Emily to come in and help us become stronger writers. The first time they came was for our first essay, appropriate. We were counted off, a few times, and separated into groups of four. We knew ahead of time that we would be editing so we all had multiple copies of our papers that would soon be marked by scribbles, slashes, and underlines. I thought the essay I had written was one of those shitty first drafts, but as it turns out it wasn't completely beyond repair. Working in groups with my classmates made me a little nervous because I hate reading my work aloud, but I really got some great feedback and ending up turning my first draft into a grade "A" essay. They helped me see where my writing was a bit choppy, or where it didn't flow very well. Most of my grammar mistakes were corrected, and a lot of my repetition was reduced. We all took turns reading our essays and helped each other along the way. I came up with a title for one paper, while someone else helped me bring my paper to a nice conclusion. I was really happy with the way the students volunteered their time to come in and help us. From now on I think I'm going to have friends peer edit my papers more often. It can be really beneficial for you grade and worth it. I hope one day I can become a strong enough writer to return to class as a COMPanion.

1981

It's coming to the end of my first semester of college, and 1981 has been an eventful year already, without my own personal experiences coming into play.
We've learned a lot this semester about various things. Our teacher changed his lesson plans every now and then because of some of the events going on. Such as, Columbia and this new phrase Internet. Lucky for me, today was just a normal day I guess..
Today I woke up around 7am and started my day just like any other. I popped on my most recent favorite channel and let music videos blast as I got myself put together for class. I was feelin' good today so I wore my lucky outfit, which included my acid wash jeans and new chucks. Picked up my backpack and headed out for the day. When I started up my Rabbit I quickly realized I needed some gas, so I prayed to the Fuel Gods as I slowly made my way to the gas station and filled up my tank, but emptied my wallet of 16 dollars.
Now that I've finally made it to school it's time to get stuff done. My teacher is not a big fan of Reagan so today he's going to explain the voting process and things to look for in our next president. But, of course nothing in the college life is made easy so I end up finishing my day with six pages of notes and a cramped up hand.
School is done so now it's time to swing through the mickey ds drive through and spend the afternoon with a Mac.

REDO: Stay Thirsty My Friends

So after doing my whole blog, I remembered that it was supposed to be about food.. so here is attempt number two.

We all agree that any kind of booze is bad for you, but beer and liquor commericals are almost always the most creative. There is an ad that portrays a man as the most interresting man in the world. It shows him doing all these amazing things in extraordinary places and finishes it off by showing him drinking a nice cold one with two beautiful ladies on his arms. The most interesting man commericals put it in your mind that he doesn't accept anything but the best, so the best beer MUST be Dos Equis since its the beer he drinks, when he occasionally decides to drink beer.

The man your man could smell like

I think one of my favorite ads is one that Old Spice made for their body wash. It shows a good looking guy with an even better looking body in a bathroom and tells you how you can turn your own man into a man like him. His tactics are humerous while in actuality the one way you can make your man like him is to get him to use that same body wash. Yet, it still makes you believe that the tickets to the thing I love can turn into diamonds. They use their already know name brand and mix it with sex appeal and humor and create a fantastic ad that people want to mimic.

Environmental Footprint

After taking the survey online, I found out that it would take 4.7 Earth's to support an entire world full of Sydneys. A footprint is the mark you leave on the world and is based on the way you live and treat our planet. To most people the measure doesn't impact them at all. To some however, it changes their day by day use of resources and alters their lifestyle. People change to more ecofriendly light bulbs, reusable drinking cups, or even  alter the way their houses use electricity. The thing I think I can change is by using a reusable cup. I don't own one, and even though I always recycle I think it would be way better to rewash one cup instead of having someone else break down a bottle and create something else out of it.

A little bit about myself

Hey everyone, my name is Sydney and I'm a freshman at FGCU. I'm from a little town called Spring Hill, Fl where the coolest thing around was the "live mermaid" show at our state park. When I'm not in school I'm usually working at Outback or hanging out with my roommates. I moved to Lehigh Acres with my boyfriend, and two people from my high school and commute to school and work from there. In high school I was really involved in student government. I was junior class secretary and senior class vice president. I really hope to grab a seat on the senate here at FGCU. I'm majoring in Communications and so far really love my classes. I haven't really met a lot of people so far since I'm living off campus, but hopefully that'll change with all my classes. I'm terrified of speaking in public, watch way too many movies, and wish I had a puppy more than anything in the world. I'm the youngest of four, with two sisters and an older brother. I have one tattoo and plan on spending whatever refund money I get from the Spring term to expand on it. I'm probably the least athletic person ever, but I still love to attempt anything. I'm really into music and pop culture, which is why my major is communications. I grew up on "the nature coast" side of Florida so I am in love with the outdoors. I'm always looking at the trees or clouds and could float on the Weeki Wachee River for hours. I'm a very easy going. I have had the same best friends since first grade, and miss them so much ever since college started. Other than the four girls I've known since elementary school, I tend to stay clear of girls and have most of my friends be boys. They're just cooler and have way less and drama. Which is what I'm all about. I'm really excited, but also a little scared of all the changes going on. But for now I'm just going with the flow of things until it becomes normal. :)
